Alrosa is aiming to further strengthen its presence in the US with the reopening of its trade office in New York, citing tremendous opportunities in the American diamond jewellery market.

Sergey Ivanov, president of Alrosa, recently met with representatives of the US diamond industry, including Ronald VanderLinden, president of the US Jewelry Council, and Reuven Kaufman, president of the Diamond Dealers Club of New York.

Among the pertinent issues discussed at the meeting were the current state of the global rough and polished diamond industry, and prospects for cooperation. The meeting also delved into plans to revive Alrosa’s trade office in New York, which has not operated since 2016.

“The US is the world’s largest diamond jewellery consumption market. There is no doubt that Alrosa is interested in the presence and development of cooperation in this market, not only within the rough diamond sales, but also within the trade in polished diamonds,” noted Ivanov.

Alrosa is currently considering a number of candidates for the position of head of the Arcos USA. The subdivision is expected to resume operations, including trading of diamonds, in late 2017 to early 2018.
