CIBJO Publishes Sixth Pre-Congress Report on Business Integrity in Jewellery

As the countdown begins for the 2025 CIBJO Congress in Paris, the CIBJO Ethics Commission has unveiled its sixth pre-congress Special Report, centering on integrity and ethical conduct within the global jewellery and watch industries.

Authored under the guidance of Sara Yood, the report highlights four critical pillars shaping the future of responsible business practices:

  • Anti-money laundering and financial transparency

  • Ethical marketing and risks of greenwashing

  • Consumer disclosure and product integrity

  • Technology as a tool for transparency

“Integrity and transparency across the supply chain have never been more urgent,” said Ms. Yood, stressing that stricter regulations and heightened consumer expectations make responsible practices non-negotiable.

The report also underscores the growing influence of technology. Blockchain, for example, can secure unalterable provenance records, while artificial intelligence may bring greater consistency in grading and pricing. Yet, Ms. Yood cautioned that these innovations are not infallible: AI can inherit biases from its training data, and its processes are not always fully transparent.

“Integrity and transparency are not lofty ideals — they are vital conditions for the jewellery industry’s survival and growth,” she noted. By adhering to these principles, companies can protect consumer trust, avoid regulatory risks, and reinforce jewellery’s timeless role as a symbol of beauty, identity, and celebration.

The 2025 CIBJO Congress is set to open in Paris on October 27, 2025, where these issues will be central to industry discussions.
