Instore Acquires JA New York Trade Shows in Strategic Industry Expansion

Instore has acquired the renowned JA New York trade shows from Emerald Holding in a move aimed at revitalizing one of the jewellery industry’s long-standing exhibition platforms. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

The acquisition marks a significant shift in the U.S. jewellery trade show landscape, with Instore stating that it intends to reposition JA New York as a key destination for independent retailers, suppliers and jewellery professionals.

Focus on Rebuilding Industry Engagement

JA New York traditionally organized Spring and Fall trade events each year and was once considered a major fixture on the industry calendar. Before the pandemic, the exhibitions reportedly attracted around 10,000 attendees and more than 500 exhibitors annually. However, recent attendance figures have not been publicly released, and the Summer edition of the show has not taken place since 2022.

Instore described the acquisition as a major milestone for the jewellery sector, emphasizing plans to strengthen networking opportunities and commercial engagement across the industry.

Emerald Holding Refocuses Event Portfolio

The sale aligns with Emerald Holding’s broader strategy to concentrate on its higher-margin flagship events, including Couture in Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Antique Jewelry & Watch Show, and NY Now, which focuses on gift, home, lifestyle and accessories categories.

The transaction also comes at a time when Emerald Holding itself is undergoing a corporate transition through its acquisition by Apollo Global Management, a major U.S.-based private equity and alternative asset management firm.

Instore Highlights Long-Term Vision for JA New York

Matthijs Braakman said the company’s priority is to ensure the event continues serving the evolving needs of the jewellery industry.

According to Braakman, the renewed focus will center on helping independent retailers discover practical business solutions while creating stronger connections between suppliers and buyers across the market.

Industry Eyes Revival of Historic Trade Platform

The acquisition has generated attention across the jewellery sector as stakeholders watch how Instore plans to reshape the future of JA New York. Industry observers believe the move could help restore momentum to the trade show following years of disruption caused by changing retail dynamics and the pandemic era.
