CIBJO to Host Sustainability and Diamond Market Seminars at VicenzaOro

CIBJO, the World Jewellery Confederation, will hold a series of educational seminars at the upcoming VicenzaOro trade show, focusing on sustainability, traceability, and the evolving diamond market.

The four “hybrid” seminars will be held on 8th September at the Palladio Theatre within the Fiera di Vicenza exposition centre. They will be available both in-person and streamed live online via the VicenzaOro website.

The seminars are part of a joint Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and sustainability program between CIBJO and the Italian Exhibition Group (IEG), the organiser of VicenzaOro. The program is recognised by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations.

The first seminar, “Perspectives on the Use of Recycled Gold,” will explore the growing demand for recycled gold in the jewellery industry, driven by consumer and regulatory pressures for transparency in product origin. John Mulligan, President of CIBJO’s Sustainable Development Commission, will moderate the discussion with panellists from the World Gold Council, Metalor Technologies, Italpreziosi SPA, and the London Bullion Market Association.

The second seminar, “A Look at Traceability in Different Jewellery Industry Sectors,” will address the increasing demand for traceability throughout the jewellery supply chain. Moderated by Edward Johnson of Gemfields, the world’s largest coloured gemstone miner, the panel will include representatives from the diamond, coloured gemstone, and precious metals sectors.

The third seminar, “Why Nature Matters to Your Business Strategy: Looking at the Role of the Jewellery Industry in Protecting Biodiversity,” will focus on environmental responsibility and the industry’s role in protecting biodiversity. This session is organised in cooperation with the Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030.

The final seminar, “The Growing Separation of the Natural and Laboratory-grown Diamond Markets,” will explore the increasing divergence between natural and laboratory-grown diamond markets. The session will delve into the price differential between the two products and the importance of consumer education regarding their differing value propositions. Edan Golan, CEO of Edahn Golan Diamond Research & Data Ltd., will present on market trends before a panel discussion featuring experts from Initiatives in Art and Culture, the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC), and the Natural Diamond Council.
