Renowned fashion designer and jewellery collaborator Karl Lagerfeld has died, aged 85.

The German-born designer, who was the creative director for Chanel and Fendi, is understood to have passed away in Paris this morning.

Iconic figures from the world of fashion and design have been paying tribute to him for his incredible talent and the legacy he leaves behind.

Mr Lagerfeld, recognised for his distinctive ponytail and dark glasses, was considered a legend of the fashion industry, with his work also touching the jewellery sector over the years.

Two years ago he signed a major multi-year jewellery licensing deal with the Swarovski Group that saw the launch of specially-designed necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings.

At the time, Pier Paolo Righi, chief executive of the Karl Lagerfeld namesake brand, said: “Karl is the man of accessorisation and jewellery, it was, therefore, the next natural step for us to expand our product range with a fashion jewellery collection. Swarovski with their significant expertise makes the perfect partner for us.”

As one of the most celebrated fashion designers, Karl Lagerfeld is globally renowned for his cutting-edge approach to style, with his namesake fashion house reflecting his signature aesthetic through creative, cool and accessible-luxe apparel and accessories.

The BBC reported that Lagerfeld had “worked tirelessly, simultaneously churning out collections for LVMH’s Fendi and his own label, up until his death.”
