African luxury jewellery brand AKANO introduced its newest high jewellery collection, ‘Omenala’, during Paris Fashion Week, presenting the pieces in an exclusive showcase at The Peninsula Paris on 4 March 2026.
The collection is deeply rooted in the cultural traditions of the Igbo community of West Africa. The term “Omenala”, which translates to “heritage” in the Igbo language, reflects the brand’s focus on preserving and reinterpreting ancestral symbolism through contemporary jewellery design.
Founded by designer Akunna Nwala-Akano, the brand blends African cultural storytelling with the craftsmanship of haute joaillerie. Through the ‘Omenala’ collection, AKANO transforms traditional narratives, spiritual motifs and cosmological references from West African culture into striking modern jewellery pieces.
The designs feature high-carat diamonds paired with vibrant coloured gemstones, arranged in bold and architectural forms. These pieces aim to echo the grandeur of ceremonial jewellery traditions while presenting a refined, contemporary aesthetic suited to global luxury audiences.
The Paris presentation was organized as a private event attended by fashion editors, jewellery collectors and key figures from the luxury industry, coinciding with the international fashion week schedule.
With the launch of the ‘Omenala’ collection, AKANO continues to highlight African artistic heritage within the world of high jewellery. The collection also reflects the increasing visibility and influence of African designers in the global luxury market, particularly through high-profile platforms such as Paris Fashion Week.
