GJEPC Surat RO Hosts Industry Interaction with DGTS on Key Tax Concerns

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) Surat Regional Office recently organised an important meeting between gem and jewellery industry representatives and Shri Sumit Kumar, Principal Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Taxpayer Services (DGTS), to discuss pressing taxpayer-related issues affecting the sector.

DGTS plays a central role in improving taxpayer services by supervising facilitation centres and helplines, gathering stakeholder feedback, ensuring policy implementation, and maintaining regular engagement with industries for better outreach and compliance support.

The interaction saw participation from leading associations including the Surat Diamond Association, Surat Jewellery Manufacturers Association, Surat Jewellers Association, Lab Grown Diamond Association, and the Association of Chartered Accountants (Western Zone), along with prominent chartered accountants from the trade.

During the meeting, stakeholders raised several critical concerns impacting business operations. These included the buildup of GST input credit, delays in IGST refund processing, enforcement-related issues, seizure of goods during consignment-based transfers, and challenges linked to customs duty refunds.

Responding to the concerns, Shri Sumit Kumar assured participants that all matters presented by the industry would be carefully reviewed and that suitable measures would be considered to address them.

The meeting reflects ongoing efforts by GJEPC’s Surat office to strengthen dialogue between the trade and government authorities, while seeking practical solutions to improve ease of doing business for the gem and jewellery sector.
