In a strategic shift that reflects both market realities and evolving exhibitor preferences, the Carats 2025 trade show, hosted by the Surat Diamond Association (SDA), is relocating to the more intimate Avadh Utopia Lifestyle Club and Hotel. This move marks a significant change from its previous grand setting at the 1.5 million sq. ft. Surat International Exhibition and Convention Centre (SIECC).
The decision comes at a time when the global diamond industry continues to navigate a period of subdued demand and cautious sentiment. Scheduled to run from July 11–13, the three-day B2B event will feature just 73 exhibitors—down from 118 in 2024—underscoring the tempered enthusiasm among manufacturers and traders this year.
However, SDA officials insist the downsizing is not purely a result of dwindling participation. “Exhibitors are increasingly valuing convenience and integrated hospitality. Avadh Utopia offers a premium setting that aligns with these expectations,” said SDA president Jagdishbhai Khunt.
Despite the scaled-down venue and lower exhibitor turnout, the organizers are still projecting healthy footfall. According to a recent SDA Instagram update, over 7,000 visitors and 200+ buyers are expected to attend. This compares to 10,000 attendees reported in 2024.
While the numbers signal a modest dip, SDA remains optimistic about the show’s stature. “Even in a challenging year, Carats continues to be a beacon for innovation, networking, and business in the diamond ecosystem,” said Khunt, emphasizing the show’s enduring relevance as a key platform in the global gem and jewellery calendar.
As Surat—India’s diamond-cutting powerhouse—adapts to shifting global dynamics, Carats 2025 may serve as a more focused, relationship-driven edition of what has traditionally been one of the city’s most prominent trade showcases.
