GJEPC Champions India’s Gem & Jewellery Industry During Commerce Minister’s UAE Mission

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) is playing a pivotal role in strengthening trade ties between India and the UAE, as part of the high-level business delegation accompanying Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister of Commerce & Industry, during his official visit to Abu Dhabi and Dubai from 18th–20th September.

The Indian contingent included leading representatives from the sector such as Mr. Kirit Bhansali, Chairman, GJEPC; Mr. Adil Kotwal, Member, SEZ Panel, GJEPC; Mr. Yogendra Garg, Regional Chairman – Jaipur; Mr. Bharat Takhtani, Director, Zar Jewels; Mr. Arpit Narola, Director, Shree Ramkrishna Exports (SRK); and Mr. Ashish Sakhardande, Head – IJEX, GJEPC.

Day one of the visit featured strategic discussions focused on deepening the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which became operational in May 2022. The agreement has already transformed bilateral trade dynamics.

India-UAE merchandise trade has surged from USD 43.3 billion in FY2020-21 to USD 83.7 billion in FY2023-24, nearly doubling in just three years. The gem and jewellery sector has been a key growth driver, with bilateral trade rising by 35% from USD 20.88 billion in FY2022 to USD 28.15 billion in FY2024. Notably, India’s exports of gems and jewellery to the UAE recorded a remarkable 60% leap—from USD 4.95 billion to USD 8.04 billion over the same period.

Through this mission, GJEPC is reinforcing India’s position as a global jewellery powerhouse while creating new pathways for collaboration under CEPA, ensuring mutual growth for both nations’ economies.
