The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) held strategic discussions with senior representatives of Brazil’s jewellery sector in New Delhi on 19 February, exploring avenues for collaboration across the entire gem and jewellery value chain.
The Brazilian delegation was led by Carla Christina Fernandes Pinheiro, President of AJORIO and Vice President of IBGM. The visit signals growing intent to strengthen industry ties between the two gemstone-rich nations.
Representing GJEPC were K.K. Duggal, Director – Policy; Sridhar Iyengar, Director – International Events; and Ajay Purohit, Assistant Director – Jaipur. Discussions focused on identifying complementary strengths — from Brazil’s coloured gemstone resources to India’s global leadership in diamond processing and jewellery manufacturing.
Delhi Liaison Office Planned
A key development shared during the meeting was Brazil’s plan to establish its first liaison office in New Delhi. The initiative is aligned with the ongoing Presidential-level engagement between the two countries and is expected to streamline trade facilitation, improve regulatory coordination, and enhance direct market access for jewellery businesses on both sides.
Expanding Value Chain Cooperation
Both sides explored opportunities in sourcing, joint exhibitions, knowledge exchange, and promotional activities aimed at expanding bilateral trade. With Brazil known for its rich reserves of coloured gemstones and India recognised as a major manufacturing and export hub, collaboration could unlock new supply-chain efficiencies and design synergies.
The dialogue reflects a broader push to diversify trade partnerships and create stronger South-South cooperation within the global gems and jewellery industry.
