A remarkable 23.36-carat round brilliant diamond, described as the largest of its kind to appear in the UK market in the past decade, is set to go under the hammer on 17 March. The exceptional stone is expected to achieve between £800,000 and £1 million (approximately $1.07 million to $1.34 million).

The diamond will lead the Fine Jewellery auction hosted by Elmwood’s in London, drawing attention from collectors and high-end jewellery enthusiasts.

According to Joe Kendrick, head of sale at the auction house, the gem represents a rare combination of impressive size, high clarity and top-grade cutting. He noted that stones of this quality and scale rarely appear in the UK market and typically surface only once in many years.

The last diamond in a comparable size range to sell in the UK was a 26.29-carat loose cushion-cut stone that achieved £656,750 at an auction by Sotheby’s in June 2017.

Certification from the Gemological Institute of America confirms the stone carries an I colour grade and VVS1 clarity. It also boasts excellent ratings for cut, polish and symmetry, with no fluorescence. The diamond is mounted as a solitaire in a platinum ring, enhancing its visual impact.

Auction specialists note that diamonds exceeding 20 carats are seldom encountered, and when presented as a single-stone setting they take on a striking, almost sculptural presence, allowing their brilliance and purity to stand out without distraction.
