Susan Jacques, President and CEO of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), has been recognized with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA). The accolade was presented during a gala dinner at the conclusion of the ICA Congress held from May 19–22 in Brasília, Brazil.
A celebrated leader with over 45 years in the gemstone and jewelry industry, Jacques was lauded for her enduring contributions, leadership, and character.
“Susan has served our industry in many impactful roles, always with unwavering dedication and professionalism,” said ICA President Damien Cody. “Beyond her impressive accomplishments, it’s her warmth, integrity, and generosity that have earned her the admiration of colleagues across the globe. As she prepares to retire, her legacy will continue to inspire for generations.”
ICA CEO Doug Hucker added, “Susan exemplifies a rare caliber of leadership—thoughtful, visionary, and deeply committed. It has been a privilege to collaborate with her through the years. Her influence will long outlast her tenure.”
Jacques expressed gratitude for the recognition: “It is truly an honour and a privilege to have been part of this remarkable industry for over four decades. This award is deeply meaningful—both unexpected and profoundly appreciated. I’ve been blessed with an incredibly fulfilling career.”
Jacques was appointed GIA’s President and CEO in January 2014, following a six-month term as interim CEO. She previously served on the GIA Board of Governors beginning in 1996, including a six-year tenure as Chair. Her retirement as President and CEO is planned for the end of 2025, marking the close of an era defined by visionary leadership and service to the global gemological community.
