De Beers Diamond Production Plunges 36% in Q2 as Demand Slump Persists

In a landmark achievement for both the diamond and sustainability industries, Shree Ramkrishna Exports (SRK) has become the first company globally to produce carbon-negative natural polished diamonds, marking a revolutionary step in responsible luxury. The announcement, fittingly made on World Decarbonisation Day (June 25th), underscores SRK’s commitment to environmental stewardship at the highest level.

According to the company, SRK’s natural diamonds now carry a negative carbon footprint of –0.239 kg CO₂e per carat, meaning the carbon emissions offset during production exceed those generated. On an organizational scale, SRK reports a climate-positive balance of –893 metric tonnes of CO₂e, reaffirming its leadership in sustainable manufacturing.

This milestone was independently verified by Deutsch Quality Systems (India) Pvt. Ltd., adhering to rigorous international standards including ISO 14064-1:2018, ISO 14067:2018, ISO 14068-1:2023, and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, lending global credibility to the certification.

Shreyans Dholakia, Entrepreneur and Brand Custodian at SRK, framed the achievement not just as a business success, but as a broader moral commitment:

“At SRK, we have always believed that true luxury isn’t just about what you create—it’s about what you contribute. Achieving carbon-negative diamond crafting is a call to the industry: elegance and ethics must coexist.”

The carbon-negative status of SRK’s diamonds adds a compelling new dimension to natural gemstones, appealing to a growing global segment of eco-conscious consumers who demand transparency and sustainability in luxury products.

With this bold step, SRK is not just redefining what it means to be a responsible diamond manufacturer—it is setting a new gold standard for the entire global jewellery industry.
