The Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (Public Organization) or GIT is organising its 12th annual World Jewelry Design Awards to support jewellery designers around the world and further bolster Thailand’s thriving jewellery industry.
This year’s theme will be “The Pearl of Wisdom – Illumination From Under the Surface,” which aims to promote global awareness on the beauty of pearls.
Duangkamol Jiambutr, director of The Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand, commented, “The Thai gem and jewellery industry is very important to the Thai economy and employment. It is important to have a competitive advantage to maintain our market share and increase export revenues.”
She further cited unique designs, innovative production techniques and technology, and delicate craftsmanship as key factors to success. Modern-day consumers, she said, favour new trends and styles and their preferences are changing at a faster pace.
“Consequently, GIT has to train competent personnel in all fields to enter the industry. These fields include gemmology, design and marketing. Moreover, it is crucial to keep the new generation of designers in the gem and jewellery industry motivated. For that reason, the institution organises an annual competition for designers,” she added.
Five designers who will make it to the finals will see their concepts produced into actual jewellery pieces with the support of GIT. The competition is now open for registration until May 28, 2018.
