Three armed raiders fled a jewelry store, after the manager fired shots, say police in Guntersville, Alabama, USA.

They believe the same men may have been responsible for kidnapping two women and driving their van to the scene of the attempted robbery at Griffins Jewelers on 28 March.

Witnesses said they saw a white van, which was subsequently found, with the two women inside, unharmed.

Two men were later arrested after barricading themselves into the attic of a nearby home during a four-hour long standoff.

They have been identified as Jonathan Banks of Guntersville and Andre Burgin of Midfield, Alabama. Police are hunting a third man.
