IIG and Polygon Forge Strategic Alliance to Connect India’s Jewellery Talent with Global Markets

The International Institute of Gemology (IIG) has signed a strategic partnership with Polygon, a leading North American business-to-business jewellery trading network, in a move aimed at strengthening international business opportunities for Indian students, alumni, and jewellery manufacturers.

The collaboration is designed to bridge the gap between education and global commerce by providing emerging professionals and established businesses with direct access to international buyers, suppliers, and industry networks. Through the partnership, IIG seeks to enhance the global competitiveness of India’s gem and jewellery ecosystem while creating new avenues for cross-border trade.

As part of the agreement, active IIG students and alumni will receive preferential introductory membership rates to Polygon’s professional trading platform. Membership will enable them to engage with a verified network of jewellery retailers, wholesalers, and dealers across North America through a commission-free marketplace known for its focus on trust and professional business relationships.

Beyond networking opportunities, the two organizations plan to collaborate on educational initiatives, including webinars, market intelligence reports, sourcing resources, and industry insights. These programs are intended to provide participants with practical knowledge of international jewellery markets, evolving consumer trends, and global manufacturing standards.

The partnership also carries significant benefits for India’s manufacturing sector. Qualified Indian jewellery manufacturers will be introduced to Polygon’s business network, creating opportunities to expand their presence in North America, establish new commercial relationships, and access a broader customer base in one of the world’s largest jewellery markets.

Rahul Desai, Director of IIG, said the collaboration represents an important step toward preparing future professionals for an increasingly interconnected global industry. By linking students and manufacturers with an established international trade platform, the initiative aims to broaden career prospects, strengthen export opportunities, and provide valuable exposure to global business practices.

Sean Lemire, General Director of Polygon, highlighted India’s strategic importance in the global gem and jewellery supply chain, noting that the country remains one of the world’s leading centres for gemstone processing, jewellery manufacturing, and skilled craftsmanship. He emphasized that the partnership would create stronger connections between Polygon’s international member network and India’s vibrant gemmological and manufacturing community.

The alliance reflects a growing trend toward international collaboration between educational institutions and trade organizations, enabling future professionals to combine technical expertise with global business exposure. As the jewellery industry becomes increasingly interconnected, initiatives such as the IIG–Polygon partnership are expected to play a key role in supporting innovation, expanding export opportunities, and fostering long-term industry growth.
